Dr. Haile, the founder and CEO of GeoSAS, is a distinguished leader with over thirty years of impactful experience in development and humanitarian work across Africa. Holding a PhD in Meteorology, Dr. Haile’s career is marked by a deep commitment to tackling food insecurity, driving rural development, and fostering sustainable economic growth. Before founding GeoSAS, Dr. Haile held several senior roles at the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), including Regional Director for Southern Africa and WFP Country Director in Egypt. In these positions, he developed robust partnerships with governments, engaged with Heads of State, Government Ministers, and key development partners, and collaborated closely with the private sector and financial institutions. His efforts significantly transformed rural communities through the establishment of public-private partnerships and innovative development projects.
One of Dr. Haile’s notable achievements was the installation of solar-powered energy hubs in regions such as Madagascar that previously had no access to electricity. These hubs marked a significant transition from no energy to green energy solutions. They have been transformative, providing clean energy that has facilitated entrepreneurial activities, created youth employment opportunities, and enabled digital access for education and skills development.
Additionally, the provision of clean energy has supported clean cooking practices, reducing reliance on charcoal and firewood, and consequently addressing deforestation and environmental degradation.
Dr. Haile’s leadership in advancing agricultural productivity and promoting sustainable practices is evident from his efforts to enhance value addition and value chains in agriculture. His initiatives have supported the development of alternative livelihoods, improved food security, and promoted sustainable agricultural production, all while boosting youth employment.
He has also been instrumental in mobilizing financing through innovative projects and programs, fostering cooperation with development partners, and accessing climate financing for rural communities. His leadership in establishing a geospatial platform in Lesotho has been crucial for spatial data analysis and resource management. Additionally, Dr. Haile has successfully developed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with key institutions such as Afreximbank and Dubai Digital School. His engagement with the African Union Development Agency, SADC, and other development partners has been pivotal in advancing regional and continental development goals.
Now leading GeoSAS, Dr. Haile is dedicated to applying his strategic vision and extensive experience to drive sustainable development and innovation.
